In 1957, Irma Callisto charted Newton Animal Rescue League and Humane Society, to care for homeless animals. In those days they were usually shot and killed. In 2000, it became Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society, and 2017 became no kill shelter.
The staff worked so hard to give care to all animals that were brought there and so much love was given. It is not an easy job and very stressful at times.
Now 2020, JCARL will be closing, 63 years of caring enough for animals and for their care, keep them safe and find loving homes. Yes I am angry and devastated! This is deplorable!
So what happens now to all those animals that ran off, lost, homeless, injured or dumped?
What if your fur baby took off? Will they get hit by a car, die from starvation, extreme heat/cold, get picked up for bait animal or will they be shot and killed?
By closing our shelter there will be NO PLACE for them to go and be taken care of.
Newton is a nice place to live and raise a family but you forgot something now, ANIMALS ARE FAMILY!!
