Newton Police Department

• Randy G. Dickerson Jr, 34, of Newton, was arrested at 9:43 a.m. May 26 in the 500 block of East Second Street North on two Jasper County warrants. One for a criminal mischief charge and one for violating conditions of release on a child endangerment charge and was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jason T. Purtilo, 36, of Newton, was charged with trespassing at 8:26 p.m. May 21 in the 300 block of Second Avenue West. According to the Newton Police Department, Purtilo entered the property of the business Cardinal Corner. Purtilo was served a no trespass order on May 14 for this business. Purtilo was identified by witnesses at the scene and also on security footage. Purtilo was cited and released to appear in court.

• Shawn C. Dobbs, 29, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred at 5:48 p.m. May 26. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were conducting a routine patrol when they saw Dobbs get into the driver's compartment of a car in the parking lot of Hy-Vee. Officers knew Dobb's driving status was barred. Officers followed the vehicle through the parking lot and saw the vehicle pull out. Officers also saw the driver's brake light was non-functioning. Officers initiated a traffic stop and exited their marked patrol car and approached the vehicle. Officers made contact with Dobbs and told him the reason for the stop. Dobbs denied knowing his driving status was barred. Dobbs was cited and released to appear in court. Additionally, Dobbs was cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability, operation without certificate of title and improper rear lamps.
