Newton man arrested for assault

A Newton man was arrested for domestic abuse Monday after forcing his way into a home and taking a child.

Nicoli J. Allspach, 22, of Newton, was charged following the incident at 4:42 p.m. in the 1100 block of First Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for domestic assault.

Officers made contact with the victim and Allspach. Officers spoke with the victim who said Allspach allegedly broke into her residence and took a child from the residence. Officers saw the victim had red marks on both of her arms consistent with being grabbed.

The victim stated Allspach forced his way into the back door of the residence and the victim barricaded herself and the child inside the child’s room. The victim said Allspach then forced his way into the room where the victim attempted to prevent Allspach from getting the child.

The victim said Allspach grabbed her and pushed her out of the way before grabbing the child and leaving the residence. Officers spoke with members of the victim’s family whom were present during the assault.

The family members confirmed Allspach had forced his way into the room and shoved the victim out of the way to get the child. The victim requested a no contact order be placed against Allspach.

Allspach was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. His next court date is scheduled for June 3.
