Four things to know from the April 27 Baxter City Council meeting

1. Public works director Shawn Fuller reported the West Field Horizon Phase IV street was poured. Final questions are being finished up for the IRUA draft contract. He would like to have it finished for a May approval. When looking at a tentative timeline for the, he sees no problems.

A proposal for make water and sewer available to the new construction on Buchanan Street was discussed as well as potential future construction. A proposal will be presented to the city council for consideration at a future meeting.

2. An ordinance to regulate the operation of off-road utility vehicles within the City of Baxter was passed in a 5-1 vote with councilwoman Tootie Samson voting against the measure. The second and third readings of the ordinance were also waived and it was adopted with a 5-1 vote with Samson again providing the no vote.

The city clerk’s office will handle registration and issue decals for the UTVs and a list of registered UTVs will be provided to the police department.

3. Council agreed to investigate other financial options available and minimize the South West Avenue Project to allow for expedient residential development.

4. The council is set to discuss allowing chickens within the city limits at its May meeting after requesting a copy of the existing city ordinance on animals for review.
