Discover Hope 517 sending out to-go meals

A ministry Discover Hope 517 has provided for those in need is taking a new shape. Meals provided to those who may be facing reduced or lost income due to the current pandemic or due to other struggles will now be on the go.

Discover Hope is doing everything they can to assist people in the community who may need some help. Meals were provided in the ministries location, 733 First Ave. E., but because of current social distancing regulations leaders had to re-think the process.

“Let’s start doing to-go meals and people don’t even have to come to our building,” executive director Robbie Robinson said.

While the food is an important aspect of this program, so is the ministry that goes along with it. Robinson said inside of the meals people get a card that has verses on them they can read and meditate on.

“Also, they get to write out a prayer request,” Robinson said.

While the Bread of Life Meal Ministry program was the brainchild of Discover Hope, many local organizations and individuals have supported the venture.

“People are donating food like crazy. People are donating funds like crazy,” Robinson said.

Anyone in the community who can’t physically come pick up a meal can call in before 11:30 a.m. each day to have a meal delivered to them. Others who need a meal can come in between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day to pick up a meal.

“Anyone can that is in need of a meal. Families in need of meal, individuals in need of a meal, children in need of a meal. They can come we will meet them at the door and we will serve them a meal,” Robinson said.

During this unprecedented time, Discover Hope knew it was time to focus its efforts on this opportunity, communication and marketing director Cody Daugherty said.

“We just feel like this was the perfect time to launch this ministry and to really focus our efforts on it simply just because now more than ever people really need it,” Daugherty said. “These meals that we provide, we put a lot of food in them.”
