Thank you, Newton Public Library patrons

On behalf of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Newton’s consortium of volunteers from several local mainline churches dedicated to helping citizens in need of assistance, I’d like to thank all of the patrons of the Newton Public Library who donated money toward our cause during the month of February.

The board was amazed to learn the total amount collected in the jar at the check-out counter bordered on $140, which will be used to help finance our ongoing Monday night laundry nights in the laundromat adjacent to the Domino’s Pizza property. (Due to the Coronavirus pandemic having reached Iowa, it has been necessary to discontinue these services until directives determine it is safe to start up again.)

A big thank you to those individuals who reached out to help their fellow citizens with their generosity. A special thank you should be given to Becca Klein, public services librarian, for initiating this project (you’re a treasure, Becca) and to Scott Creech, owner-operator of Domino’s Pizza, for providing facilities for laundry nights to become a reality (Scott’s proven his hero status in so many ways).

All of you are making a big difference in the community and words are not enough to express our gratitude.
