• Ronald D. Partelow, 42, of Newton was charged with public intoxication at 7:22 p.m. March 13 at the intersection of East Sixth Street North and North Sixth Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for a male who had been falling in the street. Officers located Partelow and could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person and Partelow admitted to drinking. In addition to the public intoxication charge Partelow was also arrested on a Polk County warrant for failure to appear and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• David L. Smith, 63, of Newton was charged with first degree harassment at 9:02 p.m. March 8 in the 1000 block of North Fifth Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for harassment. Officers had just left the scene when the victim and Smith were outside engaging in an argument. Smith was told to go inside of his house and to stop causing issues. Officers were dispatched back to the victim’s residence a few minutes later due to Smith yelling threats from across the street. Upon arrival officers spoke with the victim who said that Smith was yelling threats across the street. The victim provided video evidence that captured the threats being by made by Smith. Smith threatened to commit multiple felonies while yelling from across the street and threatened to shoot the victim. He also threatened to burn the victim’s house down. Smith was arrested on the warrant for the first degree harassment charge at 1:35 a.m. March 14 at in the 400 block of East 10th Street North and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Donald L. Mckeever, 70, of Des Moines was charged with second degree criminal mischief at 9:14 a.m. March 11 in the 300 block of East 13th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department officers were dispatched to a call for criminal mischief done to a vehicle. Officers said sometime after 9 p.m. on March 11 Mckeever went to the residence and shot a BB gun at the victim’s vehicle while it was parked in the street. There were a total of nine BB gun shots on the vehicle and the estimated cost to repair the damages is $2,468. McKeever was served his charge at the Jasper County Jail at 3:19p.m. March 12.
