Thomas Edwin Meade

Thomas Edwin Meade, 82, of Newton died on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials to Smile Train may be left at the funeral home.

Ed, the son of Elgia Edwin and Lena (Combs) Meade, was born on February 3, 1938 in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School. They returned to Newton, where Ed graduated from high school. He was united in marriage with Karen Sampleon May 29, 1963 in Bloomfield. Ed worked for the Maytag Company as the Department Head of Sheet Metal for 33 years, retiring in 1996. He was an active member of the Newton Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 59 and the Newton Eastern Star No. 100. Ed served as the Worthy Grand Patron of the Iowa Eastern Star. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. Ed enjoyed working and tinkering around his house and yard.

Ed is survived by his wife, Karen Meade of Newton; children, Tom (Paula)Meade of Newton and Donna Meade (Mark Yaple) of Iowa City; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Gott and Kara Meade; his great-grandchildren, Emma Gott, Ava Gott, Grady Gott, and Lincoln Gannaway; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leighton and Gordan Meade; and sisters, Marvel (Buddy) Cooper, Ann (Dick) Green, Frances (Darryl) Waring, Iris Dennison, Bette (Ronnie) Simpson, and Cathie (Neal) Cannady.
