• Kylee D. Feagins, 23, of Newton was charged with operating while under the influence at 1:57 a.m. Jan. 31 at the intersection of First Avenue East and East Third Street. According to the Newton Police Department, officers observed a vehicle moving erratically from side to side on the roadway. It had been called in for reckless/drunk driving. Newton police initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle did not stop at first. Officers spoke with Feagins who told police she had been drinking. Officers ran Feagins through the field sobriety tests and also obtained breath samples for the preliminary breath test which registered a .167 and for the DataMaster which registered a .203. Feagins was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Teresa F. Fields, 60, of Newton was charged with fifth degree theft at 11:41 a.m. Feb. 1 at Walmart. According to the Newton Police Department they were dispatched for a person that was detained at Walmart by asset protection and was identified as Fields. Fields admitted to Newton police she put $39.94 worth of merchandise in her purse and left the store with it. Fields admitted to Newton officers her intent was to deprive Walmart of their property. Fields was cited and released.
