Newton Police Department
• Joseph K. Mahl, 32, of Newton, was charged with trespassing from an incident that occurred at 4:31 p.m. Sept. 3 in the 700 block of East 12th Street Place North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for criminal mischief. The victim told police Mahl came to the north side of the residence and threw a trash can over, kicked a shelving unit breaking it and hit a parked car with a trash can. Mahl entered the property without permission and caused damage to items on the property. Mahl was cited and released.
• Angela R. Shaver, 41, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft at 1:20 a.m. Jan. 25 in the 100 block of East 13th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle and the registration on the vehicle was expired. The owner of the vehicle, Shaver, was a passenger at the time of the stop. Shaver told officers she was aware her license was expired but there was a green 2020 sticker on the vehicle’s license plate at the time of the stop. The sticker belonged to a license plate that had been reported stolen. At a follow up interview, Shaver denied knowing anything about the sticker being on her license plate but she did admit that she was aware her registration was expired. Shaver was cited and released.
