• Jeremiah J. Eilander, 40, of Newton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 26 in the 500 block of West Second Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers located Eilander who had an active warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody on that warrant and inside Eilander’s wallet officers found a small baggy containing a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine. The substance weighed approximately 0.5 grams. Eilander also told officers he had illegal items inside a bag on his bicycle. Officers found needles, small baggies, a scale, two small containers with residue and a glass marijuana pipe. Eilander was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Sue A. Mcpherren, 60, of Newton, was charged with trespassing at 12:10 a.m. Jan. 18 at Walmart. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call to Walmart in regards to a theft. Walmart employees said Mcpherren had been in the store Jan. 18 and had been formally trespassed from the store Aug. 26, 2018. Walmart employees were able to provide officers with a copy of the trespass paperwork and a photograph of Mcpherren in the store. Mcpherren was cited and released.
