Join Shana Stuart from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Colfax Public Library lower level, for a program about Iowa’s Carnegie libraries on the 100-year anniversary of Andrew Carnegie’s death. Stuart, director of the Carnegie Libraries in Iowa Project (CLIP) at the University of Iowa, will discuss Carnegie, a steel baron-turned philanthropist, who funded the construction of many of America’s public libraries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Stuart’s talk is entitled “Andrew Carnegie’s Riches in Iowa: Colfax.” The program will provide an overview of Iowa’s Carnegie Libraries and provide an examination of how Colfax compared with other communities. Stuart is an adjunct at the University of Iowa with a Ph.D. in art history and a masters in library science.
This program is free and open to the public.
