• Ian D. A. McCandless, 26, of Lynnville, was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked at 10 p.m. Jan. 4 in the 300 block of East 17th Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers noticed a blue Dodge Ram in the parking lot of Hy-Vee. While Newton police watched the vehicle, it drove around the parking lot without any headlights. The truck eventually went on the public street without any headlights or taillights. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with McCandless on scene, who admitted to driving the vehicle from Hy-Vee to the apartment complex. Newton officers spoke with a passenger who stated McCandless had been driving the vehicle for approximately one hour. McCandless’ driver’s license showed revoked for an OWI test failure. He also had two additional withdrawals and he told officers he did not have a license. McCandless was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Austin R. Hudson, 31, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred at 6:21 p.m. Jan. 3 at the intersection of South Eighth Avenue East and East Sixth Avenue South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers noticed a vehicle with a headlight out. Newton police initiated a traffic stop and obtained the driver’s license, registration and insurance. Hudson advised he did not have a license. Officers ran the license and it came back barred. Hudson was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
