WAVERLY — Kinzie Hardin became Newton High’s first girls’ wrestling tournament champion. Hardin pinned three opponents to capture the Bracket No. 1 championship in Saturday’s Go-Hawk Girls Round Robin Invitational.
Wrestlers from 15 teams competed in the Waverly-Shell Rock tournament. Newton had four competitors.
Hardin pinned Rorie Wiedow of Decorah in 2:51 to open action. She won by a fall over Decorah’s Ashley Bjork in 4:48 in round 2. She finished things quickly with a round 3 pin of Janessa Ervin of Wilton.
Raven Hoen took second in Bracket No. 17 with her win coming in round 2 with the pin of Crestwood’s AnnaMae Leverson. She was pinned by North Fayette Valley’s Abby Boehm in round 1.
Hoen took Waverly-Shell Rock’s Ryleigh Rinnels to overtime in their round 3 match. Hoen lost 4-2.
Emma Fox was fourth in Bracket 6 losing by fall in all three rounds to Crestwood’s Lexi Hoppe, WSR’s Maria Cooper and Anamosa’s Maggie Wagner. Grace Brown lost by pin to Jake Staack in Bracket 18.
