Tigerhawk grapplers go 1-1 in home opener

COLFAX — Five Colfax-Mingo wrestlers went 2-0 on the night and the Tigerhawks claimed a win over Collins-Maxwell during their home opener on Tuesday.

The Tigherhawks defeated Collins-Maxwell 70-10 and came up short against Interstate 35, losing 48-36.

Cyden Fitch, Trystin Ross, Tim Carroll, Hunter Stevens and Shane Aikin all went 2-0 on the night.

Colfax-Mingo took nine forfeits and went 3-2 in contested matches against Collins-Maxwell (0-2). Fitch pinned Joseph Butcher in 24 seconds at 138, Tevin Wamsher pinned Marshall Day in the second period at 145 and Stevens scored a 14-3 major decision over Kayden McKinney at 160.

Judith Goetz and Mariah Webster both lost their matches at 106 and 126, respectively.

Taking forfeits were Carroll, Ross (6-2), Aikin, Jakob Chapman (6-2), Will Thornton, Hunter Green, Noah Strohmeyer, Danica Linn and Destiny McBride-Dannels.

Against Interstate 35 (2-2), Colfax-Mingo (3-2) took two forfeits and went 4-8 in contested matches. Stevens (6-3), Ross, Carroll and Aikin all won by fall. Fitch (8-1) and Goetz both took forfeits.

Fitch is now at 99 career wins, while Ross, who is ranked sixth at 160, got both of his wins at 170 and is now at 96 career wins.
