NCMP boys narrowly lose to Boone, beat DM East

BOONE — Victories came in all three varsity relays for the first time this season for the NCMP Cardinal Boys Swimming team.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals split duals on the road, losing by two points to host Boone, 48-46. They beat Des Moines East 57-37.

NCMP’s quartet of Jacob Nedder, Jaden Dydell, Izaak Miller and Eli Eekhoff won the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 49.16 seconds. The same four won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.28.

Eekhoff and Nedder combined with Henry Jensen and Clay Meyer to edge out East in the 400 freestyle relay to end the meet. NCMP won in 3:44.07 to East’s 3:44.35.

“Jacob Nedder had the entire place on their feet anchoring the final race,” NCMP coach Steve Jones said. “We were way behind and he mowed them down to touch first at the end.”

Dydell stayed undefeated in the 100 breaststroke and the 50 freestyle in the young season. He won the 50 in 25.34 seconds with Eekhoff tying for second in 25.34.

Dydell won going away in the breaststroke, winning in 1:02.83. Brady Comer was sixth in 1:26.16.

Jensen was second in the 200 freestyle, 2:01.93, and Devin Lamb was fifth, 2:17.40. Miller was fourth and Camden Holland fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:33.48 and 2:41.13, respectively.

Miller finished third in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.52 ahead of teammate Clay Lamb, fourth in 1:07.13.

Clay Meyer took third in the 100 freestyles in 59.14 seconds. Zach Ort was sixth in 1:05.17.

Jensen claimed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.79 with Devin Lamb in fifth at 6:18.52.

In his first close race of the night, Nedder was out touched by East’s Andrew Lein in the 100 backstroke. Nedder’s second-place time was 1:00.89 and Lein won in 1:00.30.

Also in varsity relay action, the team of Holland, Comer, Clay Lamb and Jackson Mace-Maynard was fifth in the 200 medley (2:07.84); Clay Lamb, Clay Meyer, Devin Lamb and Jensen were fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:48.80); the team of Clay Lamb, Mace-Maynard, Ort and Devin Lamb was fifth in the 400 freestyle (4:12.04).

“We have very good effort and I’m proud of the team,” Jones said. “We had a lot of junior varsity swimmers do well tonight.”

NCMP’s junior varsity won seven of eight individual events.

Landon Heisdorffer won the 200 freestyle in 2:27.14 with Mace-Maynard in third, 2:30.45. He also won the 500 freestyle in 6:43.89 and Mace-Maynard won the 100 butterfly in 1:11.25.

First-year swimmer Jordan Henderson won the 50 freestyle in 27.39 and the 100 freestyle in 1:03.90. Parker Sherwood was second in 50, 29.49, and fourth in the 100, 1:06.68.

Jonah Brown won the 200 individual medley in 2:47.82 and was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:30.63. Holland was the 100 backstroke winner in 1:10.02.

The NCMP JV 200 freestyle relay team of Sherwood, Tyler Sterling, Gabe Sander and Henderson was second, 2:05.77. In the 400 freestyle relay race, the team of Sherwood, Holland, Brown and Heisdorffer was second, 4:20.57, and the team of Sander, Sterling, Comer and Henderson was third, 4:50.73.

NCMP swims at the Marshalltown Invitational at noon on Saturday.
