Edgar Porter

Edgar “Gene” Porter, 89 of Newton, previously of Monroe, passed away Nov. 25, 2019, at his home surrounded by those who loved him.

Gene was born in Girdner, Mo., Oct. 8, 1930, to Virgil and Leslie (Twitty) Porter. Gene married Betty Smith Jan 20, 1962. Gene had many jobs but his last job was driving a maintainer for Jasper County, which he retired from after 21 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; a son-in-law; a great-grandson; and his wife, Betty of 53 years. Those who will forever miss Gene are his girls, Brenda DeHaai, Tammy (Dale) Schmidt, Connie (Patrick) Knowles and Lori (Brian Carlyle); his 11 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
