Esther M. Schmidt

Esther M. Schmidt, 84, of rural Newton died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019 at the Grandview Heights Nursing Home in Marshalltown after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Esther’s memorial service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 at the funeral home.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Esther’s memory to the Jasper County Fairgrounds. The memorials may be left at the funeral home. If you are mailing your memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Schmidt Family on the envelope.

Esther M. Bollhoefer Schmidt, the daughter of Christopher and Meta Proppe Bollhoefer was born on May 12, 1935 near Laurel. On Feb. 8, 1956, Esther was united in marriage with Albert H. Schmidt in rural Newton.

Esther helped operate a dairy farm with her husband, Albert for 40 years in Jasper County. She was actively involved in local activities that included her local garden club, church, ABWA, Jasper County Fair and Dairy Promoters just to name a few. Esther and her husband, Albert hosted a farm tour for many years for the elementary students in Jasper County.

Those left to cherish Esther’s memory are her sons, Dale (Tammy) Schmidt of Newton and Paul (Chris) Schmidt of Newton; three grandsons, Tyler (Lisa) Schmidt, Ethan (Lyndi) Schmidt and Josh (Ashley) Warnell; and her five great-grandsons, Chance, Colby, Trip, Mason and Dawson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1997; two sons, a brother and a sister.
