Dydell wins breaststroke race for NCMP at Ankeny Sprint Invitational

ANKENY — NCMP junior Jaden Dydell opened the 2019-20 swimming season with an individual victory. Dydell won the 50-yard breaststroke in 27.75 seconds, touching two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher at Ankeny Boys Sprint Invitational.

The NCMP Cardinal Boys Swimming team competed in the Ankeny meet on Nov. 26 in a season-opening event at Trail Point Aquatics & Wellness Center in Ankeny. The Cardinals placed fifth with 215 points.

Host Ankeny Swimming won the team championship with 457 points with Dowling Catholic in second at 445.5 points. West Des Moines Valley was third at 377.5 followed by Southeast Polk in fourth with 229 points.

Dydell anchored the NCMP 200 freestyle relay to a third-place finish. He combined with seniors Jacob Nedder and Isaak Miller and freshman Eli Eckhoff for a time of 1 minute, 37.85 seconds. The same foursome finished fourth in the 200 medley relay race in 1:46.18.

Nedder, Eckhoff and Dydell combined with junior Henry Jensen in the 400 freestyle relay race. They placed fourth in 3:39.40.

Nedder placed eighth in the 100 individual medley in 1:02.27. Freshmen Jonah Brown and Brady Comer were 18th and 19th, respectively in the race, with times of 1:18.64 and 1:20.84.

Jensen was ninth in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.19 with juniors Devin Lamb in 13th in 2:14.22 and Landon Heisdorffer in 19th in 2:29.79. Freshman Clay Lamb took 17th in the 50 freestyle in 27.33 seconds followed by teammates Zachary Ort and Parker Sherwood in 18th and 19th, respectively, in 28.96 and 29.47.

In the 50 butterfly, Miller turned in a ninth-place time of 26.70 seconds. Sophomore Jackson Mace-Maynard was 15th in 29.44 and freshman Camden Holland was 18th in 30.69. Heisdorffer and Comer were 18th and 19th in the 50 breaststroke in 38.26 and 38.93, respectively.

Eckhoff and Jansen posted identical times — 55.72 seconds — in the 100 freestyle for a 10th-place tie. Brown was 17th in 1:10.72. Senior Clay Meyer placed 11th in the 50 backstroke in 31.21 seconds with Jensen in 13th at 31.54 and Holland in 15th at 32.67.

Junior Jordan Henderson was 16th in the 25 freestyle in 12.48 seconds. Gabe Sander, a junior, was 18th in 15.06 and sophomore Tyler Sterling was 19th in 15.82.

NCMP’s home opener is Tuesday with Boone. Races begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Newton YMCA.
