LE GRAND — Colfax-Mingo stayed with East Marshall in the first quarter and dominated the Mustangs in the fourth frame.
But the middle two quarters were too much for the Tigerhawks to handle as East Marshall handed Colfax-Mingo a 58-46 loss during girls’ basketball action in the season opener for both teams.
Senior Olivia Terrones had 20 points to lead all scorers from East Marshall.
“Our defense struggled to contain Terrones and our offense stalled at times,” Colfax-Mingo coach Blake Warrick said.
The game was tied at 12-all after one quarter. East Marshall outscored Colfax-Mingo 36-10 in the middle two quarters to take control of the game.
The Tigerhawks scored 22 points through three quarters but finished with 24 points in the fourth.
Freshman Carley Underwood led the Tigerhawks with 17 points in her prep debut. Junior Brennan Rhone added nine points and sophomore Avery Rague and freshman Abi Rawlins both finished with seven points.
“We never stopped fighting, and we were able to iron out some of the offensive issues,” Warrick said. “It was just too little too late at that point.”
Colfax-Mingo hosts Class 1A No. 10 Lynnville-Sully at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Colfax.
