Baxter senior Cole Damman put his Bolts team on his back in the final two games of the season to get Baxter to .500.
Colfax-Mingo senior Trystin Ross etched his name into the Tigerhawk record books with a career season.
Fellow Tigerhawk senior Andres Villegas opened holes on the offensive line to pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher.
All three Jasper County athletes earned all-state football honors by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association recently. The all-state teams were released on Nov. 26.
Damman and Ross were both second-team selections, while Villegas was a third-team pick.
Damman was a second-team defensive back in Class 8-man. Ross was a second-team selection at wide receiver in 1A and Villegas was a third-team choice on the offensive line in 1A.
Damman was the Bolts’ best player on both sides of the ball.
On defense, he led Baxter with 91.5 tackles, which ranked 14th in 8-man. He also had four tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and two fumble recoveries.
Damman was used sparingly on defense for some of the season, but tallied 51.5 tackles in the final three games of the season. It helped the Bolts go from 3-5 to 5-5.
He also had 12.5 tackles and one sack in the season-opening win over Mormon Trail.
Ross led all of 1A with 81 catches, which also was a school record. He tied for second in 1A with 14 touchdowns, which was another school record. Ross ranked sixth in 1A with 879 yards.
He started the season with 13 catches for 172 yards and three TDs against BCLUW. He had 10 catches against district champion Pella Christian and 11 catches against district runner-up Woodward-Granger.
Against Woodward Academy, Ross had 15 catches for 172 yards and he had nine catches for 140 yards and two scores against Wayne.
Villegas, who has committed to play football at Grand View University, was the best linemen for Colfax-Mingo.
Offensively, he helped C-M rush for 1,416 yards and a 4.2 yards per carry average. The offense ranked 14th in 1A with 3,218 total yards.
The Tigerhawks also scored 37 touchdowns and averaged 29 points per game.
