Newton Police Department
• Trynda S. Steiner, 48, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft from an incident that occurred at 6:44 p.m. Oct. 10 at Walmart. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call to Walmart for shoplifting. Newton police arrived and spoke with asset protection. Asset protection told officers Steiner had been observed on video allegedly failing to scan all of the merchandise in her cart at the self-checkout register before leaving the store with the merchandise. Asset protection provided officers with a receipt for the unpaid merchandise valued at $15.47 and a copy of the video. Officers reviewed the video and observed Steiner fail to scan the merchandise prior to placing it in a grocery bag and leaving the store with the merchandise. Steiner was cited and released.
