Trudy Kaye Delk, 71, of Newton, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m.. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the funeral home. Memorials to Trudy’s family may be left at the funeral home (checks made payable to Kevin Delk or Melissa Budinich).

Trudy, the daughter of Burl Dean and Grace (Keith) Hawkins, was born March 3, 1948, in Knoxville. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1966. Trudy worked in the factory at the Maytag Company for more than 20 years. She later was the office manager at Steppin Out Dance Studio for 13 years.

Trudy, who was called “Momma Delk” by many, enjoyed dancing, puzzles and playing Yahtzee with her twin sister, Judy. She was always the life of the party and hosted a memorable Halloween party for many years. Trudy loved taking pictures at every event and then printing those pictures out and finding just the right card to give them to you in. She would never forget a birthday. Trudy loved life and loved sharing life with all of her family and friends. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and Women’s Bowling League.

Trudy is survived by her children, Kevin (Amy) Delk, MeLissa (Merek) Budinich, Kurtis Delk and Kory (Desire’) Delk, all of Newton; the father of her children, LeRoy Delk of Newton; grandchildren, Tanner Delk, Ashlee (Dylan) Young, MeLayna Budinich, MaKarra Budinich, Harper Delk, Garrett Cook, Lindsay Campbell and Avery Omann, all of Newton; her siblings, Judy Taylor of Newton, Becky Schafer of Newton and Donny (Nancy) Hawkins of Wisconsin; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ronny and Danny Hawkins; and sister, Linda Joyce.
