Mondays

I had such a Monday. I’ve had a few of those the last month or so but this time, it was something special.

My car had developed quite the shake with an off alignment and tires going bad. After dealing with it for a bit, I had a chance to get it in the shop and be able to drive my husband’s vehicle without sticking him with the craft van.

I brought it in Wednesday to get two new tires and an oil change. We were heading out of town for the weekend for my Council Bluffs craft show so I wouldn’t need my car for five whole days, which I thought was the perfect time for it to go in.

The weekend went great, I had my best show there ever. Selling a few extra items also helped ease the pain of the Hawkeyes loss and offensive woes.

When we got home on Sunday my car was sitting out ready to be picked up and since we have an extra key we grabbed it so everyone could drive their own vehicles to work Monday.

I am not a car expert by any means. I don’t know what’s under the hood, I rely on professionals to take care of it.

I noticed my car making some clunking noises but just figured it does that sometimes. Then, as I was driving to work it would grab me and jog me to the left a little. I thought maybe I was just hitting some pot holes and tried to push it to the back of my mind.

The noises and jogs didn’t stop as I made my way into town but things really went off the rails when I pulled into my parking spot. A terrible clunk led to my car no longer moving. I got out to see what had happened and my front driver’s side tire was touching the wheel well in the back. To make sure that was wrong I glanced at my back tire to confirm it shouldn’t be doing that.

I decided to back out a little ways to see if that would help. It did not and another loud clunk later and my tire was in worse shape.

I got out of my car to see my tire turned like I was going right while my other front tire was facing straight. I may not have a lot of vehicle knowledge but I knew that wasn’t OK.

I decided to just leave it be. It was pretty much in the parking spot so I wasn’t hanging out in the road and someone else was going to have to come to fix it or move it. It was beyond my help.

I called the shop and a bit later they came over to haul it back to be fixed. That process didn’t go very well either with the broken tire refusing to cooperate and giving the poor guy fits while trying to load it up.

About a half hour or so later it was finally on the wrecker and headed to be fixed. I’m not sure what all the damage is but I did see that the main piece directing my tire where to go was broken off, so there is at least that.

To get around the rest of the day my parents brought over their vehicle, thanks Mom and Dad. Dana also let me go for my pop run in the morning with her car, which I am very grateful for.

If there is something I hate spending money on, it is vehicles. But I need to get around and I’m thankful I can get it fixed so I can get back on the road.
