Hawks, Tigerhawks advance in SICL tournament play

Lynnville-Sully and Colfax-Mingo competed in South Iowa Cedar League volleyball tournament pool play on Monday. Both area teams advance to tournament quad action on Thursday.

Lynnville-Sully on to Gold Quad

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks hosted BGM and Sigourney in Monday’s pool play at Sully. Sigourney beat BGM in three sets to advance to play the Hawks.

Lynnville-Sully, which is the SICL West Division champion, defeated Sigourney 25-10, 25-19, 25-21. The Hawks were 85-of-88 serving in the match.

Junior Korinne Jansen was 15-of-15 serving with four ace serves for the Hawks. Also 15-of-15 was junior Jaden Brand with two ace serves. Senior Mallory Loftus, and juniors Denali Conover and Cally Gibbs each had one service ace.

Leading the Hawk net attack was Loftus with eight kills, one solo block and one assisted block. Junior Krystal Van Dyke had six kills, five solo blocks and one assisted block. Gibbs had two assisted blocks.

Jansen put down six kills and Conover had four kills while Gibbs had one kill. Junior setter Cayler Noun-Harder had 17 set assists and Gibbs had two assists.

Jansen and Conover each were credited with 21 digs. Noun-Harder came up with 16 digs while Gibbs had nine and Brand had seven digs.

Lynnville-Sully (16-6) will host the Gold Quad at 5 p.m. Thursday at Sully. The Hawks play Iowa Valley in the first match followed by Belle Plaine taking on North Mahaska. The winners play for the Gold Quad title.

Colfax-Mingo advances

to Silver Quad

NEW SHARON — Colfax-Mingo’s volleyball team split its two matches during SICL tournament pool play on Monday night.

The Tigerhawks pushed their record to 6-17 after a three-set win over Keota (3-15) and a three-set loss to North Mahaska (15-10).

Colfax-Mingo defeated Keota 25-18, 25-12, 25-14 and then lost to North Mahaska 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.

The two-match split for the Tigerhawks sends them to the Silver Quad of the SICL tournament on Thursday.

HLV hosts the Silver Quad and plays Sigourney in the first match at 5 p.m. in Victor. Colfax-Mingo faces Montezuma in the second match of the night. The two winners play each other in the championship match.
