Baxter football can’t slow down AGWSR

ACKLEY — Cole Damman rushed for 169 yards, threw for 175 and tallied three total touchdowns, but Baxter’s football team lost on the road to AGWSR during Class 8-man District 5 play on Oct. 11.

The Bolts trailed 6-0 after one quarter but were outscored 36-12 in the second quarter and lost 64-18.

AGWSR won its sixth straight game behind 376 rushing yards and 7.6 yards per carry.

Damman was 15-of-28 through the air. He threw one TD and one interception. He gained his 169 rushing yards on 21 carries. Damman had a 60-yard TD run.

Damman’s TD pass went to his younger brother Cody Damman, who finished with 71 yards on six catches. Rory Heer added seven catches for 99 yards for the Bolts (3-5 overall, 2-3 in district play).

Cole Damman’s TD pass to Cody Damman covered 34 yards. Cole Damman also had 18.5 tackles on defense, while Cody Damman finished with 11.5 tackles.

Grant Borts finished with 7.5 tackles, Heer tallied six tackles and Jake Travis collected five tackles. Micah Kearns recovered a fumble.

Cale Culver rushed for 115 yards and two scores, Jaden Penning had 104 rushing yards and a TD and Titan Opperman threw for 46 yards, rushed for 62 yards and had three total TDs for the host Cougars (6-1, 5-0).

Baxter returns to action against Colo-NESCO at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 in Baxter.
