The Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center will be celebrating 10 years in Newton Saturday with a mixture of festivities for those who attend at their location in rural Jasper County.
The business is owned by Dawn and Dave Peters who live right across the highway from the building. Running Fore Seasons isn’t their only occupation. Dawn Peters works full time for a funeral home and Dave Peters is an attorney. However the couple had a vision to add the business to their resume. The establishment was built 10 years ago in what used to be a cornfield.
“We built this from the ground up,” Dawn Peters said.
The Peters’ inherited the land after Dave’s parents passed away. The transition has a unique story even before the couple broke ground.
“Before the building was ever built, we were out kind of laying out the territory where we thought the building would go and this storm cloud came out of nowhere,” Dawn Peters said. “It just started downpouring and Dave’s like, ‘Yep that’s my dad, he is not happy.’”
The Fore Seasons offers a wide variety of features to customers outside of just golfing, which the name suggests. According to Dawn Peters, their services include a bar, restaurant and a venue for people to hold events.
“We do offer golf lessons here as well. We have got a pro on staff. John Shawver is his name,” Dawn Peters said.
Through 10 years of service to the community, she said there has been good relationships forged with those who frequent the business and through the special things they do with their space they have available for events.
“We have met a lot of great friends through the business,” Dawn Peters said. “We donate our space a lot for benefits ... We always donate anything for military people.”
To celebrate the past decade of business, the Peters have organized an anniversary bash Saturday. The event has no cover charge. There will be specials throughout day beginning at 10 a.m. Some of the features includes free beer and food until it’s gone. There will also be giveaways with some of the prizes being a television and Yeti Cooler. Live music from Standing Hampton will be featured from 1 to 5 p.m. among other things.
Ten years is a lot to celebrate for any business. Fore Seasons has created a unique product and the customers have been loyal to them over the past decade.
“We just wanted to give back to our customers that have been so faithful to us because we do have a lot of very faithful customers,” Dawn Peters said.
