Bilingual book reading, musical event for families Monday at NPL

Karin Stein, Iowa Field Consultant for Moms Clean Air Force, will present a fun, bilingual family program together with her special guest, Rep. Wes Breckenridge. The reading will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Newton Public Library.

Together they will read a beautiful, bilingual children’s book entitled “Señorita Mariposa,” written by Ben Gundersheimer — also known as “Mister G” — who is a Grammy Award-winning children’s musician. The book was illustrated by Marcos Almada Rivero, and it follows the extraordinary journey that monarch butterflies take each year from Canada to Mexico.

Stein, who aside from representing Moms Clean Air Force is a Latin American musician, will bring along her musical instruments and perform a few songs after the reading. She will talk a little bit about the migration of the butterflies and the importance of protecting ecosystems.

This program is great for all ages. There will be hands-on activities for the youngest audience members, as well as contents to keep older children and adults entertained.
