PCM volleyball loses to ranked Gilbert

GILBERT — Prairie City-Monroe went on the road to face Class 4A No. 11 Gilbert on Monday, and the Mustangs were swept by the Tigers in the Heart of Iowa Conference opener for both teams.

Gilbert won the match 25-9, 25-15, 25-8 to improve to 12-4 on the season. PCM fell to 3-12.

Senior Shelby Voeller had two kills, eight assists and five digs to lead the Mustangs. Junior Celeste Wagaman had a team-high three kills and junior Jacki Vos added a pair of kills.

Sophomore Claire Wilson chipped in four digs and two aces and she was 6-for-6 in serves.

Sophomore Chelsea Bird was 10-for-10 in serves and had two digs. The Mustangs were 33-of-34 from behind the service line.

The Mustangs play in their home opener against Saydel at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Monroe. It’s another HOIC contest.
