Newton High sophomore Nate Maki (26) outruns the Boone Toreadors for his second TD run of the first quarter in Monday’s junior varsity football game.
Maki had scoring runs of 33 and 46 yards and caught a 34-yard TD pass from sophomore quarterback Adam Mattes to help build a 34-0 halftime lead. Newton won 41-0 at home. Jack Suttek had a 32-yard TD pass from Mattes. Mattes scored in the first half on a 5-yard run and he kicked four extra points.
The Cardinals added another touchdown in the second half while shutting out the visitors from Boone. No other details were available at press time. Newton’s junior varsity is 2-0 and hosts Pella Christian at 5:30 p.m. next Monday at H.A. Lynn Stadium.
