The meaning of ‘profound’

Searching my mind for a brief description of the Newton Community Theatre’s latest presentation, “Crucible” I settled on just one word, “profound.”

Webster defines “profound” as penetrating or entering deeply into a subject or thought. Intense or extreme.

My dear late wife Mary and I, in past years, had the privilege of attending many great theatre productions in various parts of Europe as well as the United States. In my humble opinion, this portrayal of “Crucible” rates right up there with the best, “King Lear,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Mousetrap.”

Our community owes this current cast an overwhelming “thanks” for the many hours of preparation and dedication to such a thought provoking presentation.

P.S. This great production continues Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Don’t miss it.
