BAXTER — Getting back to their roots, cousins Missy Roush and John Oliviera are welcoming guests in their grandparent’s former establishment. Bea’s Place, a bar with a restaurant to come, carries on the name of the former business owned by their grandparents at 108 N. Main St. in Baxter.
“We chose the name because our grandparents owned the bar in Baxter for several years, and I wanted to go back old school and do things like my grandmother did,” Roush said.
In a space previously occupied by Cadillac Jack’s, Bea’s Place looks to continue traditions that have made the previous bars successful and build upon that success by branching out with new events and specials. From continuing Bike Night to adding happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m., pay-per-view showings, trivia night and maybe even a movie night for kids, Roush and Oliviera are excited to be a destination location for the residents of Baxter and beyond.
“We have a room to the south, a large room with a stage that can also be used for private parties,” Roush said. “It is just a complete game changer because if it rains, then (on Bike Night) the band can move inside.”
Filled with colorful bottles shining on top of LED lighting, the bar has been given an update with a new bar top, flooring, bathrooms and more. Roush said she is also collecting memorabilia from old businesses in town to be displayed throughout the bar.
“I have found some pretty cool things,” Roush said.
While the restaurant portion of the business is still under construction with the dining area being remodeled, the large, outdoor patio is ready for relaxing and hanging out with friends as the warmer weather settles in for the season.
“The Chichaqua Valley Bike Trail goes right behind the building and we have already had a group ask about using it and having an event at the bar,” Roush said.
Bea’s Place is open seven days a week with hours from 3 p.m. to midnight Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
“It has been going really well, we are pleased,” Roush said. “We have a lot of ideas, we just have to get them put together.”
