Newton Police Department

• Craig R. Perales, 18, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and introducing intoxicants or drugs into institution at 2 p.m. April 12 in the 1400 block of North 11th Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers located Perales walking near an apartment complex on North 11th Avenue East. Officers knew he had an active warrant for failure to appear on possession of controlled substance. Officers placed Perales under arrest for the warrant charge. Perales admitted to possessing a marijuana pipe. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail. Once inside the jail, officers found a small baggy of a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine. Perales admitted it was meth but had forgotten he had it.

• Jennifer A. Shaver, 48, of Newton, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness at 11 p.m. April 12 in the 600 block of East 13th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were called to a residence for a possible assault. Upon arrival, officers met with witnesses who said the victim was at the residence to speak with another party. She was asked to leave several times by Shaver. The victim refused to leave, so Shaver began to force the victim out the door. The victim pushed back and then Shaver struck the victim in the face, causing a broken nose and a black eye. Shaver was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Christine M. McCormick, 51, is charged with trespass at 11 p.m. April 12 in the 600 block of East 13th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were dispatched for a potential assault. After speaking to witnesses, officers discovered McCormick went to a residence to speak to another party. She was asked to leave multiple times and refused to do so. McCormick received a citation and was released to appear in court.
