Community Loan Closet in need of medical equipment donations

The Community Loan Closet is in need of donations of durable medical equipment.

For years, the Salvation Army has operated the Community Loan Closet, 404 S. Second Ave. E. in Newton. Many people have checked out items such as walkers, bath benches, shower chairs, wheelchairs and toilet risers. Most people need items like these after an injury, having surgery or suffering a neurological event, which impairs their balance and mobility. Many people just need these types of equipment for a recovery time of 90 days or less while others need equipment for longer periods of time. Generally, no insurance plans pay for any bathroom equipment.

At this time, organizers are asking for donations of equipment that you may be storing at your house and don’t know what to do with. Even if you feel it may be in disrepair, the equipment may be able to be restored for use or used for parts to repair other like items.

An equipment drive is being planned from 8 to 5 p.m. April 4-6. Volunteers are asking those who have these items and wish to donate them to bring them during this time.

Donations can always be dropped off from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday at 404 S. Second Ave E. in Newton. Call 641-792-6113 if you have questions.
