Supervisors approve annexation of lots to Monroe

County certifies new hires

Three county lots will be annexed into the City of Monroe following the Jasper County Board of Supervisors’ vote to approve the action during its Tuesday meeting.

Upon receiving the voluntary annexation application from Darrell and Karlin Hjortshoj, the City of Monroe is obligated by Iowa Code to notify the county board. As stated in the resolution, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors shall state whether it “supports the application or whether it takes no position in support of or against the application.”

Doug Cupples, the board of supervisors chair, entertained a motion to approve the application for the annexation plat, which measures about 3.56 acres along Highway F70. The board voted 3-0 in favor of supporting the action.

New hires

Two employee hirings were also approved by the board of supervisors.

Following the board’s action, Mark Patterson was certified to fill the third cook “dishwasher” position for Elderly Nutrition at a hire-in, non-progressive, union pay scale rate of $10.26 per hour.

Likewise, Jonathon “Colt” Kingery was certified to fill an open skilled laborer position for the secondary roads department at a hire-in, non-progressive, union pay scale rate of $21.81 per hour.

In other action Tuesday, the board:

• Approved a liquor license for Fore Seasons Golf & Practice Center and a temporary liquor license for Pheasants Forever at Christian Conference Center, which will last five days.

• Approved 2017 tax levies.
