Lewis, Seebeck headlines C-M baseball contingent on SICL teams

Colfax-Mingo’s top hitter and top pitcher were named to the South Iowa Cedar League all-conference first team as the baseball squads were released last weekend.

Senior Misha Seebeck led the Tigerhawks at the plate and senior Alex Lewis led the way on the mound, helping Colfax-Mingo win its first conference title. The entire all-SICL team featured 10 area players.

After Seebeck and Lewis on the first team, junior Zarek Hill and sophomores Trystin Ross and Brady Berkey were all second-team selections for Colfax-Mingo. Senior Reegan Van Dyke and sophomore Trinity Schroeder earned honorable mention recognition.

Seebeck, a first-team infielder, was the Tigerhawks’ top hitter overall and the best inside SICL play. Overall, Seebeck batted .436, had an on-base percentage of .508 and finished with 23 RBIs, 16 runs, four doubles, eight walks and two steals. The 23 RBIs ranked sixth in the conference.

In conference play, Seebeck batted .455 and had an OBP of .538. He finished with 18 RBIs, scored 13 runs, hit three doubles, walked seven times and stole two bases. His 18 RBIs ranked tied for fourth in the league.

Colfax-Mingo won the conference title with the league’s best earned run average at 1.80.

Lewis, a first-team pitcher, led the way in that category as he went 7-1 overall with an ERA of 1.43 in 44 innings pitched. He also had one save, 47 strikeouts, 17 walks and opponents batted .176 against him.

In conference play, Lewis was 6-1 with an ERA of 1.14 in 37 innings. He had one save, 41 strikeouts, 13 walks and opponents hit .169 against him. The 1.14 ERA was the best in SICL games among players who made more than two starts. The 41 strikeouts ranked tied for third.

Ross earned his second-team recognition as a pitcher. Overall, the sophomore was 2-0 in five starts with an ERA of 2.72 in 28 1/3 innings. He recorded two saves, struck out 45, walked 19 and opponents hit .149 against him.

In conference play, Ross was 2-0 in five starts with an ERA of 3.08 in 25 innings. He struck out 40, walked 18 and opponents batted .163 against him. The 40 strikeouts ranked tied for fifth.

Hill earned second-team honors as a catcher for the second straight season. The Tigerhawk junior batted .383, had an OBP of .507 and finished with 16 RBIs, 20 runs, five doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 walks and 14 steals.

In conference play, Hill batted .353 with an OBP of .476 and finished with 15 RBIs, 18 runs, four doubles, two home runs, 10 walks and 12 steals.

Berkey, a second-team infielder, batted .385, had an OBP of .474 and finished with seven RBIs, 20 runs, four doubles, 11 walks and seven steals. In conference play, Berkey improved his average to .423 and had an OBP of .520. He finished with five RBIs, 17 runs, four doubles, eight walks and six steals.

Schroeder, an outfielder, was an honorable mention pick for the Tigerhawks despite having one of the best batting averages on the team. He hit .400 with an OBP of .481 and finished with 11 RBIs, 21 runs, eight walks, a home run and five steals.

In conference play, Schroeder batted .364 with an OBP of .453. He had nine RBIs, 15 runs, seven walks, a home a run and four steals.

Van Dyke, who played center field for the Tigerhawks, batted .278 overall and had an OBP of .447. He finished with 14 RBIs, 11 runs, 11 walks and nine steals. In conference play, he improved his batting average to .357 and his OBP rose to .486. He finished with 12 RBIs, eight runs, seven walks and eight steals.
