Colfax-Mingo finishes fourth at EBF, fifth at PCM

EDDYVILLE — Colfax-Mingo’s boys’ track and field team won two events and scored 74 points at the annual EBF Rocket Relays on April 24.

Senior Reegan Van Dyke won the high jump, and he teamed up with sophomore Trinity Schroeder, senior Nick Barnes and junior Zarek Hill to win the shuttle hurdle relay.

The Tigerhawks were 17 points better than Van Buren and 31 points ahead of host EBF in the six-team field.

Pekin won the meet with 174 points, and Prairie City-Monroe was the runner-up with 123. Pella Christian finished third with 117 points.

Van Dyke’s winning mark in the high jump was 5 feet, 6 inches. Freshman A.J. Gibson was fourth with a leap of 5-4.

Colfax-Mingo’s Colton Lourens was the runner-up in the discus. His best throw was a 128-11. Gibson was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.23 seconds.

Colfax-Mingo won the shuttle hurdle relay and was top-three in three other relays.

The Tigerhawks’ winning shuttle hurdle relay included Schroeder, Van Dyke, Barnes and Hill, and that foursome finished in 1 minute, 2.38 seconds.

The Tigerhawks distance medley relay team of junior Cauy Fitch, Gibson, junior Holister Koenig and sophomore Zack Barnes finished third in 4:07.56.

Colfax-Mingo was second in the 4x400 relay. That foursome included Schroeder, Hill, Summy and Koenig, and they crossed the finish line in 3:44.51.

The 4x800 relay team of Fitch, senior Alex Lewis and freshmen Colton Hernandez and Hunter Green finished third in 9:42.44.

Mustangs place fifth

at PCM

MONROE — The Tigerhawks won another shuttle hurdle title and Van Dyke won a jump off to win the Class A high jump at the PCM Boys Track Classic on April 26.

The two wins helped the Tigerhawks place fifth in the team standings. Host PCM finished second, scored 126 points and trailed Dowling’s JV by 53. West Marshall was third with 91 points, East Marshall scored 88 and Colfax-Mingo rounded out the top five with 75 points.

Colfax-Mingo won the shuttle hurdle relay. The foursome of Schroeder, Van Dyke, Barnes and Hill stopped the clock in 1:02.53.

The Tigerhawks’ other win came from Van Dyke in the high jump. There was a three-way tie at the top, but Van Dyke’s final mark was 5-10 after a jump off.

Hill had the next best finish as he was third in the 400 hurdles. He was clocked at 1:01.71.
