Ninth grade NHS student Talbot Mastio was elected ISTEP state president in April.
ISTEP is a statewide program sponsored by the Iowa Department of Public Health, and works in partnership with groups like the American Lung Association in Iowa. The name stands for Iowa Students Tobacco Education and Prevention. The organization’s chapters work with the youth of Iowa to prevent teens from smoking and educate Iowans about the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine in all its forms.
Talbot’s term as statewide president will run from June 1, 2018 to June 1, 2019. She will attend commission and executive board meetings and appear as a spokesperson for the group.
