For more than 27 years, the Fred Maytag Family Foundation has been an ardent supporter of the Willowbrook Adult Day Center in Newton.
Many are unaware of the existence of adult day services. Adult day is a professional care setting in which older adults, adults living with dementia or adults living with disabilities receive individualized therapeutic, social and health services for some part of the day.
Willowbrook provides a coordinated program of professional and compassionate services for adults in a community-based group setting. Services are designed to provide social and some health services to adults who need supervised care in a safe place outside the home during the day. They also afford caregivers respite from the demanding responsibilities of caregiving. Adult day centers generally operate during normal business hours five days a week.
Increasing numbers of older adults are choosing to remain in their own homes as they age, and adult day centers provide the necessary services and peace of mind that families need to continue in their caregiver roles. Willowbrook is an economical choice, as the daily rate is often about a third of the cost of institutional care.
With the generous support of the Fred Maytag Family Foundation, Willowbrook Adult Day at Park Centre continues to offer scholarships for those older adults who may need a little financial assistance in order to support their health and independence. This is a tremendous gift to our community.
On Jan. 23, Willowbrook will be hosting a guest day for older adults to participate in adult day programs and services at no cost. This is an opportunity for individuals to experience Willowbrook’s vibrant and engaging environment first-hand between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Call Kelsey at 641-791-4500 to reserve your spot.
Willowbrook opened in 1985 and became a part of the WesleyLife family in 1992 when it relocated to the newly opened Park Centre retirement community campus. Located at 501 E. Second Street N. in Newton, the center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can serve 20 individuals daily.
