Richard K. Butler, 65, of Baxter, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 12:30 p.m. July 26. Butler was leaving Farver's True Value and set off the shoplifting detection alarm at the door. Butler was stopped by employees. Butler had an unopened Dremel spiral cut drill bit on his person that he said he just bought at Theisens but had no receipt. The drill bit did belong to True Value and had a value of $6.94. Butler was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Randi L. Hamilton, 35, of Newton, was arrested at 12:41 p.m. July 27 on a Jasper County warrant for probation violation. Hamilton was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jayme L. Peterson, 34, of Newton, was arrested at 12:45 a.m. July 31 on a Warren County warrant for failure to appear on charges of possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a prescription drug, providing false identification, fifth-degree theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing prosecution or defense. Peterson was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Cody G. Thompson, 34, of Newton, was arrested at 12:18 a.m. July 31 on a Jasper County warrant for probation violation. Thompson was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• James A. Garland Jr., 37, of Newton, was arrested at 6:28 p.m. July 28 on two Jasper County warrants. One for violation of no contact order and one for trespass. Garland was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Brandon W. McConnell, 29, of Newton, was arrested at 10:26 p.m. July 28 on a Jasper County warrant for fifth-degree theft. McConnell was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Nycole R. Huffaker, 34, of Newton, was arrested at 7 p.m. July 29 on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear on a fifth-degree theft charge. Huffaker was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
