Rev. Dan Dorau to celebrate Mass of Thanksgiving Sunday

Newly ordained the Rev. Dan Dorau will celebrate at Mass of Thanksgiving at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

A reception and brunch to honor Rev. Dorau will be held in McCann Center immediately following Mass.

Previously serving as a deacon within the Diocese of Davenport, Dorau was ordained to the priesthood on May 27 at Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton, with Bishop Martin J. Amos of the Diocese of Davenport presiding at the Ordination Mass.

Following his ordination, Dorau will be serving as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport.

Dorau, 57, was born in Lincoln, Neb., and raised in Fort Dodge. He attended Catholic schools there and graduated from Loras College, Dubuque, with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication. He earned a master’s degree in Information and Communication from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind. Dorau received a Master of Divinity from Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology, Hales Corners, Wis.

In 2015, he completed his clinical pastoral education at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Dorau held internships at Sacred Heart; Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace; and St. Jerome, Oconomowoc, Wis. On June 4, 2016, he was ordained a transitional deacon.

Before entering the priesthood, Dorau worked in sales in St. Cloud, Minn.; was an insurance agent and claims adjuster in Iowa and Indiana; worked as a program manager for a welfare-to-work program in Indiana; and served as a computer analyst in the banking industry in Indiana.
