CMB baseball starts season with loss to Nevada; softball game suspended

COLLINS — Junior Travis Lindemoen had two hits and senior Creighton Caple walked and scored the team’s only run, but Nevada opened the season with a 7-1 road win over the Raiders on Monday.

The Cubs led 3-0 after two innings and then chased CMB starter Brady Kemp after a four-run fourth inning. CMB tallied its own run in the sixth inning.

The Raiders were held to three hits. Lindemoen went 2-for-3 and walked.

Junior Brady Ross had the Raiders’ other hit. Caple and freshman Derrick Klemme each walked once.

Tyler Shafer had two hits, two runs and two walks for the Cubs, and Cam Shill added two hits, one run and one RBI.

Kemp took the loss on the mound after allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked five and struck out four.

Caple threw the final 3 2/3 innings and allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out four and walking none.

The Raiders are down to just 13 players on the roster and will only play a varsity season in 2017. CMB hosts Greene County at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Collins.

SOFTBALL

The CMB-Nevada softball game was suspended in the fourth inning due to weather. The Raiders currently lead the game 6-0, and CMB coach Troy Houge said they will likely finish the game when the Raiders go to Nevada later this season.
