PCM boys golf cruises to home win; Hawks finish fourth

MONROE — The Prairie City-Monroe boys golf team showed off its depth in the season and home opener Tuesday.

Sophomore Andrew Van Ryswyk performed to his No. 1 spot in the lineup, but the Mustangs’ No. 8 golfer Ethan Thomas was the runner-up medalist and all nine golfers on the course shot 45 or better.

Van Ryswyk won medalist honors with a 38, while Thomas carded a 39 in second. Junior Noah Lanphier finished third overall with a 40, and senior Braden Phifer tied for fourth with a 41.

The Mustangs cruised to the team title. PCM carded a 161, while Albia finished second with a 183, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont took third with a 203 and Lynnville-Sully finished fourth with a 259.

The Hawks’ top golfer was sophomore Abram Collins, who shot a 58. Senior Isaac Collins carded a 63, No. 1 golfer Holden Jansen, a junior, shot a 64 and senior Trevor Squires had the final counting score with a 74. Sophomore Cade Dibello carded a non-counting score of 85.

Juniors Jackson Thomas and Elijah Sperfslage shot non-counting 42s. The other non-counting scores came from senior Ryan Hill (43), junior Dayton Boell (43) and sophomore Reed Worth (45).
