Concert association presents crowd pleaser

On March 17, Newton welcomed pianist, composer, and Steinway artist Julian Lawrence Gargiulo to the Newton Senior High Center for Performance. Fresh from concerts at Carnegie Hall and around the country, he impressed the listeners with his musicality and charisma.

Julian G. featured crowd-pleasing classical works like “Moonlight Sonata”, “Flight of the Bumblebee” and “Clair de Lune” mixed with original compositions. I especially appreciated his works inspired by the tango. These allowed his passion and personal style to shine through.

The concert was highly interactive including frequent stories and jokes. Particularly interesting was his use of video streaming technology which allowed everyone to watch his hands up close on the big screen while playing.

The passion and precision of his playing made Piano Conversations with Julian Gargiulo one of the best music programs I have seen in a long while. I hope you are able to join the Jasper County Concert Association at the next concert on April 18 featuring trio New Odyssey.
