Carl G. Shockey, 94, of Newton, died Monday, March 27, 2017, at Nelson Manor in Newton. A private family burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery at a later date.
Carl, the son of Bryan and Bessie (Nickell) Shockey, was born Oct. 22, 1922. He graduated from Lineville High School and then served his country in the U.S. Navy. Carl was united in marriage with Rose Gilliland Otcheck Aug. 14, 1976, in Grinnell. Carl worked and later retired from the Maytag Company in Newton.
Carl is survived by his wife, Rose Shockey of Newton; son, Ron (Sara) Shockey of Newton; daughter, Judy Van Sant of Sedalia, Mo.; step-daughters, Margaret (Tom) Elgersma of Sanborn and Juanita (Hugo) Jaramillo of Waxahachie, Texas; grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Shockey, Justin and Brandon Van Sant, Jason Ankeny and Robert McFail, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Meredith Elgersma (Travis Nelson), Julia (Duane) Martin of Mexico and Joel (Rebecca) Johnston of Indianapolis, Ind.; four great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Rockhold of Lineville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jerilee Shockey; step-daughter, Barbara C. Otcheck; and his siblings.
