More space was the driving force to move Nehring Auto and Towing from its First Avenue West location to First Avenue East.
Now located at 1800 First Ave. E., owner Carey Nehring is excited for the opportunity the added space will bring business.
“(We moved because of) the size of the building and the location, it is more central. It is also a bigger building so we can get all of our tow trucks inside during the winter which helps out a lot,” Nehring said. “It makes us able to respond quicker instead of having to come in during the middle of the night and warm up the truck, de-ice it. We can come, jump in it and go.”
Nehring started his business seven years ago when he took his hobby to the next level.
“I worked for a grocery store chain for 20 years, and I left them and got into real estate,” Nehring said. “I have always messed with cars and it happened that the former location came for sale, so I bought it and right when that came for sale the former Chrysler dealership closed down so I was able to hire a couple of really good people that actually ran it for me for a few years to start with.”
Nehring started out behind the scenes while a few trusted employees ran the business. The first services offered included auto repair and selling cars with the towing and U-Haul branches of the business coming a year later.
He said he always loved messing with cars and found it to be a hobby he could begin to make money doing. Once work picked up, Nehring decided it was time to make the business his full-time job.
“Since then we have evolved to four full-time and two part-time employees. It kept growing to the point where I had to be here more often,” Nehring said.
Now at the new location, Nehring looks forward to where the business can grow and what new opportunities are available with the added space.
“We will keep upgrading the building as we go,” Nehring said. “We are constantly improving so it will be interesting to see how this one ends up.”
