Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge to host July photo hikes

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will host its June Photo Hike from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.

This program is free and open to the public.

Participants will meet outside the Prairie Learning Center at 8 a.m. for a brief orientation, including an overview of some common summer flowers and wildlife that might be seen. Photographers will then be guided on a walk through the summer prairie.

The other July Photo Hike will be from 7 to 9 p.m. July 20. Participants will meet in the Prairie Learning Center for a brief introduction.

Amateur and professional photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. These hikes will be off the trails, so please come prepared. Bring your own camera equipment, comfortable shoes/boots, long pants, bug spray, water and your sense of wonder. Photographers will have the opportunity to participate in a photography exhibit at the Prairie Learning Center in November and December.

Registration is encouraged. Please sign up in advance by contacting Doreen Van Ryswyk at 515-994-3400 or Doreen_vanryswyk@fws.gov.
