Doug Logue was born March 6, 1955, in Newton, to Calvin and Ruth Logue. Doug graduated from Newton High School. After graduation, he joined the Army and served his country from 1973-1994. He is a veteran of Desert Storm, Desert Shield and ran the National Guard Armory in Chariton, before retiring as Master Sergeant. Doug married Marion Perkins in 1974, and born to that union were three sons, Jeremy, Matt and Keith. In 1997, he married Lori Holmes and adopted her son Devin in 2001. In 2002, they moved to Chariton and received custody of Alyson, Jared, Jordan Kent and Larry Holmes, whom he raised like his own. Doug also had a fulfilling career at Hy-Vee Distribution Center and retired in 2008.
Doug loved hunting, fishing, gardening, camping and spending time with family and friends. He was always willing to help with anything and gave out gardening tips and would be the first one to host a fish fry at family gatherings and camp outs.
Doug passed away after a short, brave battle with cancer Feb. 13, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin; and his brother, Kenny Logue.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Logue of Chariton; his mother, Ruth Logue of Newton; his children, Jeremy (Jackie) of Carlisle, Matt (Jaci) of Ackworth, Keith of Chicago, Devin of Chariton, Alyson Kent of Chariton, Jared, Jordon Kent and Larry Holmes of Chariton. Doug also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Carter, Gracie, Maddi, Kate, Kayla, Lilly, Waylon, Conlan and Landen. Doug’s brothers and sisters include Benny Logue of Texas, Rick (Glenda) Crook of Newton, Susie (Jerry) Wallace of Colorado, Ed (Marla) Logue of Newton, Lola (Lonnie) Lamb of Newton, Della (Patrick) Payton of Newton and Terry (Becky) Logue of Newton.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, with Pastor Paul Olson officiating. Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery following the service. Bearers were Jimmy Logue, Brad Korte, Wayne Smith, Ritchie Crook, Shane McCarty and Joel Sadler. Honor bearers were Ed Logue, Terry Logue, Rick Crook and Bennie Logue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Doug was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
