Winter Photo Hike returns to Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its annual Winter Photo Hike from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. This program is free and open to the public. Participants will meet at the Prairie Learning and Visitor Center at 9 a.m. for a brief orientation.

Neal Smith NWR staff will introduce winter subjects on the prairie, and then will guide photographers to a few good photography spots. One location may be off-trail, so be prepared to fully experience the tallgrass prairie in winter.

Amateur and professional photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Bring your own camera equipment, comfortable shoes/boots, a water bottle and your sense of wonder. Photographers will also have the opportunity to participate in an exhibit of your work in the Refuge’s art gallery in November and December.

Registration is encouraged. Sign up in advance by contacting Doreen Van Ryswyk at 515-994-3400 or Doreen_vanryswyk@fws.gov.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to providing access to this program for all participants. Please direct all requests for sign language interpreting services, close captioning, or other accommodation needs to Megan Wandag at megan_wandag@fws.gov or 515-944-3400, TTY 800-877-8339 with your request by close of business on Jan. 23.
