Howard Dean to be in Newton on Tuesday

Former presidential candidate to stump for Hillary

Former Vermont governor and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean is scheduled to be in Newton on Tuesday. He's set to stump for Hillary Clinton in an organizing event set for 4:45 p.m. at Clinton's Newton campaign office.

The campaign office is located at 110 First Street N., on the east side of the courthouse square.

Dean, 67, was the 79th Governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2003 and was Chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2005 to 2009. He is probably best known in Iowa for his 2004 presidential run, where he placed third in the Iowa Caucus and made his famous "Dean scream" speech in West Des Moines.

Dean dropped out of the 2004 race after he finished a distant third to John Kerry and John Edwards in Wisconsin on Feb. 17, similar to his numbers in the Iowa Caucus.

Dean has been a state legislator in Vermont, as well as lieutenant governor.

The stop in Newton is one of five appearances slated for Dean on Tuesday. It's sandwiched in between an afternoon appearance in Des Moines and an evening event in Iowa City.
